Jeremy Cooney has represented the 56th Senate District in Monroe County since 2021 and chairs the Senate Transportation Committee. Adopted from an orphanage in Kolkata, India, and raised in Rochester, he was the first Asian American elected to state office from upstate New York; he earlier worked for Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and was chief of staff for the City of Rochester.
