Ballot issues
Proposal 2026-1: Call a constitutional convention
Shall a convention of elected delegates be convened in 2027 to draft a general revision of the State Constitution for presentation to the state’s voters for their approval or rejection?
Proposal 2026-2: Campaign contributions by utilities and government contractors, and political ad disclosure (initiated law)
The proposal would: • Prohibit regulated electric and gas utilities, contractors with over $250,000 annually in government contracts, and people and organizations with substantial connections to these utilities/contractors from making direct or indirect campaign contributions to those who run for or hold offices that impact them. • Expand laws regulating spending on political communications, including those requiring disclosing donor information, to apply to communications clearly identifying candidates or ballot questions, even if they do not expressly advocate voting for/against them. • Expressly apply the law requiring disclosure of who paid for political communications to internet political communications. Should this proposal be adopted?
Alcona County: EMS millage renewal
Shall the limitation on the total amount of taxes which may be levied against all properties in the County of Alcona be renewed as provided by Section 6, Article 9 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963 by an amount not to exceed 1.2095 mills ($1.2095 per $1,000.00 of taxable value) on all properties in Alcona County for a period of four years (2026-2029) for the purpose of purchasing equipment, ambulances, ambulance and building maintenance, operating and maintaining Alcona County Emergency Medical Services, which will raise in the first year an estimated $1,268,292.40.
Alcona County: 911 surcharge renewal
For the period beginning July 1, 2027 and continuing through June 30, 2033 [or until the expiration of MCL 484.1401] shall Alcona County be authorized to assess a monthly surcharge of up to $3.00 (not to exceed $3.00) on the monthly billings of landline, wireless and VOIP service suppliers within the geographic boundaries of Alcona County to operate the costs of the 911 Emergency Telephone Answering and Dispatch System within Alcona County? This is a renewal of a previous voter approved authorization that will expire June 2027.
