Ballot issues
Proposal 2026-1: Call a constitutional convention
Shall a convention of elected delegates be convened in 2027 to draft a general revision of the State Constitution for presentation to the state’s voters for their approval or rejection?
Proposal 2026-2: Campaign contributions by utilities and government contractors, and political ad disclosure (initiated law)
The proposal would: • Prohibit regulated electric and gas utilities, contractors with over $250,000 annually in government contracts, and people and organizations with substantial connections to these utilities/contractors from making direct or indirect campaign contributions to those who run for or hold offices that impact them. • Expand laws regulating spending on political communications, including those requiring disclosing donor information, to apply to communications clearly identifying candidates or ballot questions, even if they do not expressly advocate voting for/against them. • Expressly apply the law requiring disclosure of who paid for political communications to internet political communications. Should this proposal be adopted?
City of Bridgman: library millage renewal and increase
In support of the continued operation of the Bridgman City Library, shall the limitation on the total amount of taxes which may be assessed against the taxable valuation of all real and personal property in the City of Bridgman liable for taxation be set at one (1) mill ($1.00 per each $1,000 of taxable valuation), which includes a renewal of .9419 mills ($0.9419 per each $1,000 of taxable valuation) plus an increase of .0581 mills ($.0581 per each $1,000 of taxable valuation). The authorization to renew the levy of said millage shall be for a period of five (5) years, being the years 2028 through 2032. It is estimated that the amount of revenue to be generated from the total millage in the first year of levy (2028) will be approximately $155,562.31.
City of Bridgman: library millage Headlee override
In support of the continued operation of the Bridgman Public Library, shall the limitation on the total amount of taxes which may be assessed against the taxable valuation of all real and personal property in the City of Bridgman liable for taxation be set at one (1) mill ($1.00 per each $1,000 of taxable valuation), which includes a current Charter millage for the Bridgman Public Library of .6919 mills ($0.6919 per each $1,000 of taxable valuation) plus an increase of .3081 mills ($.3081 per each $1,000 of taxable valuation) to override the Headlee reductions to the current Library Millage and bring the total amount of the Library Millage to one (1) mill? The authorization for the additional proposed Library Millage is of a perpetual duration and would raise approximately $48,887.32 in the first year of levy (2027).
