Ballot issues
Proposal 2026-1: Call a constitutional convention
Shall a convention of elected delegates be convened in 2027 to draft a general revision of the State Constitution for presentation to the state’s voters for their approval or rejection?
Proposal 2026-2: Campaign contributions by utilities and government contractors, and political ad disclosure (initiated law)
The proposal would: • Prohibit regulated electric and gas utilities, contractors with over $250,000 annually in government contracts, and people and organizations with substantial connections to these utilities/contractors from making direct or indirect campaign contributions to those who run for or hold offices that impact them. • Expand laws regulating spending on political communications, including those requiring disclosing donor information, to apply to communications clearly identifying candidates or ballot questions, even if they do not expressly advocate voting for/against them. • Expressly apply the law requiring disclosure of who paid for political communications to internet political communications. Should this proposal be adopted?
Lexington Township: road improvement millage renewal and increase
Shall the expired previous voted millage increase in the tax limitations imposed under Article IX, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution in Lexington Township of 1 mill ($1.00 per $1,000 of taxable value), reduced to .9933 mills by required millage rollbacks, be renewed and increased to up to 1.4933 mills ($1.4933 per $1,000 of taxable value) and levied for two (2) years (2026 through 2027 inclusive) for the purpose of road improvement, repair, and maintenance within the Township, raising an estimated $366,446.37 in the first year the millage is levied. This is a specific dedicated millage for public roads purposes and funds raised may only be captured or used in cooperation with other local units of government taxing entities as allowed by law. The millage funds may be disbursed to multiple units of government service providers under agreements subject to change as the Township Board determines appropriate. Should this proposal be adopted?
Village of Lexington: public safety millage
For the purpose of raising funds to be used exclusively to maintain police and fire protection operations within the Village, shall the Constitutional Limitation upon the total amount of taxes which may be assessed in one year upon all taxable property located in the Village be increased by up to Three mills ($3 per $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of ten years from, 2026 through 2035, inclusive? If approved and levied in full, this millage will raise approximately $219,331.07 in its first year. Proceeds from the millage may be captured by tax increment financing authorities located with in the Village of Lexington if required by law.
