The question, as printed on the ballot

Shall the School City of Beech Grove increase property taxes paid to the school corporation for no more than eight (8) years for the purpose of funding the Beech Grove City Schools: Believe in our Future initiative, by continuing existing essential student services, including school bus transportation, school facilities maintenance, and student safety and security services, including School Resource Officers, by imposing a property tax rate that does not exceed fifty-seven cents ($0.57) and results in a maximum annual amount that does not exceed $4,400,000? If this operating referendum public question is approved by the voters, for a median residence of $200,000, the property's annual property tax bill would increase by $439 per year.

A “Yes” vote means

Approves Beech Grove schools' operating tax of up to $0.57 per $100 of assessed value (up to $4.4 million a year) for up to eight years; the district says it replaces its 2020 levy.

A “No” vote means

No new referendum tax is levied and the 2020 operating referendum is not replaced; the district says it would cut about $4 million a year.

Official plain English statement

The School City of Beech Grove asks voters to approve an operating referendum tax of up to $0.57 per $100 of assessed value (up to $4.4 million a year) for up to eight years to keep paying for school bus transportation, building maintenance, and student safety and security, including school resource officers. The district says it would replace the operating referendum voters approved in 2020 and projects that a median home would pay slightly less than it does now.

On the ballot as "BEECH GROVE CITY SCHOOLS REFERENDUM" (Local Public Question), for voters in the School City of Beech Grove. The Voter Portal's ballot text says the median home's bill would increase by $439 a year, but the wording the DLGF approved (Final Determination 26-002-REF) and the Marion County Auditor's certification say $493; check the printed ballot. The district projects that a home worth about $185,700 would pay about $6.76 less in 2027 than under the current levy.
