Official plain English statement
In 1999, the Borough of Sayreville established a Length of Services Awards Program (“LOSAP”) pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:14-183, et seq., which was adopted in Ordinance No. 624-99, and approved by public referendum at the November 2, 1999 general election. The LOSAP originally set the annual contribution for qualified, active volunteers to be Seven Hundred Fifty and 00/100 ($750.00) Dollars. The Borough’s LOSAP contributions have not been increased since it was originally established in 1999. The Mayor and Borough Council now seek the approval of the legal voters of the Borough of Sayreville, Middlesex County, New Jersey, to increase the Borough’s existing annual LOSAP contributions to One Thousand, One Hundred Fifty and 00/100 ($1,150.00) Dollars, with an automatic annual cost of living adjustments based upon the Consumer Price Index as annually determined by the Director of the Division of Local Government Services. All other terms and requirements of the LOSAP will remain the same. The Borough’s LOSAP currently applies to qualified, active volunteer members of the Sayreville Volunteer Fire Department, the Sayreville Emergency Squad, and the Morgan First Aid Squad. A YES vote on this Referendum would authorize the Mayor and Borough Council to increase the annual contribution under its existing LOSAP to $1,150 per qualifying active volunteer member of a qualified services organization of the Borough of Sayreville. A NO vote on this Referendum would not allow the Mayor and Borough Council to increase its annual LOSAP contribution, which would remain at $750 per qualifying active volunteer member of a qualified services organization of the Borough of Sayreville
