The question, as printed on the ballot
Shall Article IV, Sections 2(a) and 2(b) of the Charter of the City of Independence be amended to provide that the position of the Finance Director transition from an elected office to a position appointed by the Mayor, effective January 1, 2028, subject to confirmation by at least five (5) members of Council and serving until he or she resigns, dies, or is removed by at least five (5) members of Council; and provide that a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university and have at least five years of experience in government accounting or public finance be required?
A “Yes” vote means
A yes vote makes the Finance Director a Mayor-appointed, Council-confirmed position from January 1, 2028, with degree and experience requirements, instead of an elected office.
A “No” vote means
A no vote leaves the charter unchanged.
