The question, as printed on the ballot

Shall Article VII of the City Charter of the City of Brownsville be amended to add Section 3-B, Referendum, establishing a referendum process that allows qualified voters to require that ordinances of a general nature be submitted for voter approval before taking effect; requiring that a referendum petition be signed by at least ten percent of the registered and qualified voters of the City; providing procedures for submitting and certifying referendum petitions; authorizing the City Commission to amend proposed ordinances before an election; establishing the ballot language for such elections; and permitting ordinances adopted by referendum to be amended or repealed by the City Commission after six months?

A “Yes” vote means

A yes vote lets voters, by petition of 10% of registered voters, require general ordinances to go to a public vote before taking effect.

A “No” vote means

A no vote does not add the referendum process to the charter.
