QUESTION: Shall Arlington County contract a debt and issue its general obligation bonds in the maximum principal amount of $69,745,000 to finance, together with other available funds, the cost of various capital projects for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) and other transit, pedestrian, road or transportation projects?
A “Yes” vote means
A yes vote authorizes up to $69.7 million in county bonds for Arlington's share of Metro capital costs, street paving, lighting, signals and other transportation projects.
A “No” vote means
A no vote does not authorize these $69.7 million in Metro and transportation bonds.
Official plain English statement
This proposal will fund a variety of transportation, road, pedestrian enhancement and transit projects across the County. The anticipated costs of the projects that may be financed under this proposal are $46.3 million to fund a portion of Arlington County’s share of WMATA / Metro’s capital improvement program, $15.0 million to fund a portion of the costs for paving local streets and roadways, $2.1 million to fund street lighting, , $1.8 million for signals and intelligent transportation system maintenance, and $4.6 million for other transportation projects. The County Board may reallocate bond funds among other transportation projects within the County’s Capital Improvement Plan, as amended from time to time, to the extent necessary or desirable.
