Shall Augusta County, Virginia, be authorized to levy a general retail sales tax at a rate not to exceed one percent, with the revenues to be used solely for capital projects for new construction or major renovation of schools serving Augusta County, Virginia, including related bond and loan financing costs, and with the tax expiring on August 11, 2046?
A “Yes” vote means
Authorizes Augusta County to levy an additional retail sales tax of up to 1% for school construction or major renovation, expiring Aug. 11, 2046. Supervisors must still adopt an ordinance.
A “No” vote means
Augusta County would not be given the authority to impose the additional retail sales tax of up to 1% for school construction.
Augusta County's explainer says the tax would not apply to groceries, personal hygiene products, prescription medications or gasoline, and names Valley Career and Technical Center, Stuarts Draft Middle and Stewart Middle renovations and a new bus garage as priorities.
