The question, as printed on the ballot
Shall the County of Chesterfield be authorized to levy a local general retail sales tax at a rate not to exceed one percent to provide revenue solely for capital projects for the construction or renovation of schools serving the County of Chesterfield and which shall expire on July 22, 2046?
A “Yes” vote means
Authorizes the county to levy an extra local sales tax of up to 1%, only for school construction or renovation, expiring July 22, 2046. The Board of Supervisors would still have to adopt it.
A “No” vote means
The county does not receive authority through this referendum to impose the additional sales tax.
The county's referendum page estimates $65 million to $70 million a year and says food for home consumption and essential personal hygiene products would be exempt.
