Should Powhatan County, Virginia, enact a local retail sales tax of up to one percent (1%) to provide funds that can only be used to pay for construction and renovation of public schools in Powhatan County for a period of not more than twenty years?
A “Yes” vote means
Powhatan County may enact a local sales tax of up to 1% for up to 20 years, with the money used only for construction and renovation of public schools.
A “No” vote means
Powhatan County does not get authority to enact the added local sales tax of up to 1% for public school construction and renovation.
No official explanatory statement found. The county's July 8, 2026 release says the tax would expire upon repayment of school bonds or loans, or no later than July 1, 2046, and estimates about $5 million a year.
