The question, as printed on the ballot
Grays Harbor County Fire Protection District No. 2 Proposition No.1 Two Year Levy Lid Lift The Board of Grays Harbor County Fire Protection District No. 2 adopted Resolution No. 26-02 concerning a lid lift to establish its regular property tax levy. This proposition authorizes the District to establish its regular property tax levy at $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed value in 2026 and 2027 for collection each subsequent year. The funds will maintain and improve fire protection, and life safety services, replace apparatus and equipment, and provide for firefighter safety. The dollar amount of the 2027 shall serve as the base for computing subsequent levy limitations as provided by chapter 84.55 RCW.
A “Yes” vote means
Sets the district's regular property tax at $1.50 per $1,000 in 2026 and 2027; the 2027 amount becomes the base for later limits. Voters last approved $1.50 in 2023.
A “No” vote means
Keeps the regular levy under the 1% annual limit; the district says its rate has dropped to about $1.40 per $1,000 in 2026.
Official plain English statement
Explanatory Statement Grays Harbor County Fire Protection District No. 2 provides emergency fire protection and emergency medical services to its citizens. Due to the statutory 1% limitation on property tax increases, the Fire District's current levy has dropped to approximately $1.40 per thousand in 2026. If approved by the voters, this proposition authorizes the fire district to establish its regular real property tax levy rate at $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation in 2026 and in 2027 for collection each following year. District voters last approved a $1.50 tax levy rate in 2023. The Board of Commissioners has determined that this proposition is necessary to maintain an effective level of services, firefighter staffing, equipment, and facilities in light of rising costs, rising demands, and the continued growth of our community. Approval of this measure will allow the District to maintain the level of fire protection and emergency medical services provided to its citizens and provide for firefighter safety.
