The Island County Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution No. C-62-25 calling for an advisory election to determine whether the people residing in unincorporated Island County support a ban on the use of consumer fireworks within unincorporated Island County. Should the Island County Board of Commissioners amend Island County Code Chapter 9.08A - Fireworks to ban the use of consumer fireworks in unincorporated Island County?

A “Yes” vote means

Advises the Board of County Commissioners that you support banning consumer fireworks in unincorporated Island County. The vote is advisory and does not change the law.

A “No” vote means

Advises the Board of County Commissioners that you do not support banning consumer fireworks in unincorporated Island County. The vote is advisory and does not change the law.

Official plain English statement

This is an advisory vote as to whether the Island County Board of County Commissioners should ban consumer fireworks in the unincorporated parts of Island County. Public displays authorized by permit are not affected. Currently the use and discharge of consumer fireworks other than mortar fireworks is permitted in unincorporated Island County on certain days of the year unless prohibited during severe dry weather conditions. This vote will not change the law, but will provide information to the Board of County Commissioners as to whether voters believe the County should adopt an ordinance banning use of all consumer fireworks in unincorporated Island County. The cities and town within Island County may set their own fireworks regulations. This vote is not binding, and the Board of County Commissioners may or may not act on the results.
