The question, as printed on the ballot

To support operational expenses, modernize and maintain burial records, acquire essential equipment, advance the development of green burial practices, and facilitate the acquisition of additional property, the Board of King County Cemetery District No. 1 adopted Resolution No. 295 proposing a permanent increase in its regular property tax levy from approximately $.03 ($.02816) to $.05 per $1000 of assessed valuation beginning in 2027. Should this proposition be:

A “Yes” vote means

A “No” vote means

The cemetery district's levy stays at about $0.03 per $1,000.

Official plain English statement

This measure concerns the continued stewardship and preservation of the Vashon Cemetery. The cemetery serves as the final resting place for generations of island residents and is a significant historical and community resource. Funds generated by this measure would support routine maintenance, preservation of cemetery records, repair and upkeep of facilities, and protection of the site's historical character to help ensure that the cemetery remains safe, accessible, and well maintained, while preserving its role as a place of remembrance and reflection for current and future generations. The measure does not change ownership or governance of the cemetery. An increase of two cents per $1000 of assessed valuation results in an annual property tax increase, per $100,000 of assessed property tax value, of two dollars per year. If approved, the property tax levy increase would result in a total levy of five dollars ($5.00) per $100,000 of assessed value.
