The Commission of Pend Oreille County Public Hospital District No. 1 adopted Resolution No. 2026-06 concerning a proposition to finance improvements to Newport Community Hospital. This proposition would authorize the District to expand and renovate Newport Community Hospital, including relocating the main entrance/admitting area and expanding imaging, laboratory, rehabilitative therapy, surgical, emergency, trauma, and behavioral health care services, together with other related capital improvements deemed necessary or advisable by the Commission; issue no more than $51,000,000 of general obligation bonds maturing within 30 years; and levy annual excess property taxes to repay the bonds, all as provided in Resolution No. 2026-06. Should this proposition be:
A “Yes” vote means
Hospital District 1 may issue up to $51 million in bonds over up to 30 years to expand and renovate Newport Community Hospital, repaid by a property tax estimated at $1.47 per $1,000.
A “No” vote means
Hospital District 1 does not issue the $51 million in bonds or levy the property tax to repay them.

Pend Oreille County Public Hospital District No. 1 (the "District") operates Newport Hospital and Health Services (the "Hospital"). The District has determined that the existing condition of the Hospital requires that the District expand and renovate the Hospital by relocating the main entrance and admitting area and expanding imaging, laboratory, rehabilitative therapy, surgical, emergency, trauma, and behavioral health care services, together with other related capital improvements deemed necessary or advisable by the Commission (the "Project"). To pay for the costs of the Project, the District is proposing a ballot proposition to be voted on by the voters of the District. This proposition would authorize the District to issue no more than $51,000,000 of general obligation bonds maturing within 30 years to be repaid from an annual excess property tax levy at an estimated rate of $1.47 per $1,000 of assessed value, or an estimated $36.75 per month for a $300,000 home.
