The Pierce County Charter Review Commission proposed an amendment to Section 5.40 of the Pierce County Charter concerning initiative procedures. If approved, this amendment will provide initiative sponsors 180 days to collect signatures in support of a proposed initiative. Should this proposed Charter amendment be:
A “Yes” vote means
Sponsors of a county initiative get 180 days, instead of 120, to collect voter signatures to put it on the ballot.
A “No” vote means
Sponsors of a county initiative keep 120 days to collect voter signatures to put it on the ballot.
Official plain English statement
Section 5.40 of the Pierce County Charter establishes procedures for County initiatives. Currently, initiative sponsors have 120 days to collect signatures of Pierce County registered voters to support a proposed initiative for placement on the ballot at the next general election. If approved, the Charter amendment will extend that time from 120 days to 180 days.
