The question, as printed on the ballot
The Board of Commissioners of the Orcas Island Park and Recreation District adopted Resolution 2026-07-09 concerning a six-year property tax levy. This proposition would impose a regular property tax levy in the amount of 15 cents per $1,000 of assessed value for six years, subject to the limiting factors in RCW Chapter 84.55 for the purpose of funding district programs and services. Should this proposition be approved?
A “Yes” vote means
The park and recreation district levies $0.15 per $1,000 of assessed value for six years, starting with collection in 2027, for its programs, services and facilities.
A “No” vote means
The district does not get this six-year levy.
Official plain English statement
Orcas Island Park and Recreation District (the "District") provides leisure time activities and facilities to the residents of Orcas Island. The District funds its programs, activities, services, staffing, and property improvements with a combination of money from fees and tax revenue. In 2021, voters renewed the District's current regular levy at a rate. However, the District must receive voter approval of its regular levy every six (6) years. This Proposition would restore the District's regular levy to $0.15 per $1,000 of assessed valuation in 2026 (for collection in 2027). The purposes for which the tax revenue will be spent will include facilities, improvements to facilities, programs, services, and activities involving park and recreation. Rejection of this proposition will impact the District's ability to continue the level of services and facilities.
