Sultan School District No. 311 Proposition No. 1 Bonds To Modernize Community Schools, Construct New High School and Improve Safety The Board of Directors of Sultan School District No. 311 adopted Resolution No. 25-13, concerning bonds to relieve student overcrowding and provide safe, modern schools. This proposition would authorize the District to: modernize Gold Bar Elementary (pre-K; grades K-2), Sultan Middle (grades 3-5) and Sultan High (grades 6-8) sites; construct a new high school (grades 9-12, expanded career/technical education); repurpose Sultan Elementary (Parent Partnership, educational supports, turf field for student/community use); issue $160,000,000 of general obligation bonds maturing within 21 years; and levy annual excess property taxes to repay the bonds, all as provided in Resolution No. 25-13. Should this proposition be:

A “Yes” vote means

The district could issue $160,000,000 in bonds over up to 21 years, repaid by property taxes, to modernize schools and build a new high school.

A “No” vote means

The district would not issue these bonds or levy the property taxes to repay them.

Official plain English statement

Proposition 1 authorizes school construction bonds to provide safe, modern schools in the Sultan and Gold Bar communities. Proposition 1 will improve student and staff safety and security, enhance the student learning environment and experience, reduce or eliminate the use of portable classrooms for instruction, and improve and expand educational opportunities. The bonds will: (1) modernize Gold Bar Elementary School (renovating and expanding the existing school to accommodate all pre-K and grades K-2, moving the District's youngest learners out of the floodplain); (2) modernize Sultan Middle School to accommodate grades 3-5; (3) modernize Sultan High School to accommodate grades 6-8; (4) construct a new replacement high school (including spaces for expanded career/technical education opportunities and college level academic offerings); and (5) repurpose Sultan Elementary School for the Parent Partnership Program and educational support services, including a new turf field for student, community and youth sports use. The $160,000,000 of general obligation bonds will be repaid from annual excess property taxes sufficient to pay bond debt service over a maximum term of 21 years.
