Official plain English statement

The City Council is calling for an election to impose a sales and use tax of one-tenth of one percent to continue to provide the current level of service for public safety and criminal justice services in the City. The City has incurred substantial increases in costs associated with providing public safety and criminal justices services to its citizens. The imposition of the sales and use tax sought by this Proposition 1 will allow the City to continue providing public safety and criminal justice services consistent with the current level of service as the city continues growing faster than most cities in Washington. If approved, this tax will generate 10 cents on a $100 purchase and is projected to yield an estimated $750,000 in annual revenue.
