What this office does: The sheriff is the county's chief law enforcement officer and runs the county jail.

On Sept. 21, 2026, the Board of Commissioners appointed Chief Deputy Jeff Walker sheriff effective Oct. 1, succeeding Sheriff Matt Beickert, who is running for the at-large commissioner seat.
