What this office does: A court of appeals judge hears appeals from the common pleas, municipal and county courts in the district; each case is decided by a three-judge panel.

Judges are elected by voters in Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Fayette, Madison, Preble and Warren counties. Judge Matthew Byrne (Republican) withdrew; his name is printed on the ballot, but the Butler County Board of Elections notes that votes for him will not count. The three candidates listed are declared write-in candidates, whose names are not printed on the ballot.
