Earnst practiced 28 years with the firm Braje, Nelson & Janes, more than 20 as a partner, and was a La Porte County deputy public defender for 26 years; he is now a federal community defender in the Northern District of Indiana. He is chief of the Long Beach Volunteer Fire Department.
