Voted against the 2026 tax on income over $1 million.

On the House's final passage vote on SB 6346 on March 9, 2026 (51-46), the Legislature's roll call lists Shavers under "Voting nay." At a July forum he said the tax system needs reform but cited the lack of a plan for property and sales taxes.
