Opposed a $5-an-hour raise for sheriff's deputies

In October 2023, as council vice president, he read a statement that the county could not afford the raise or the 10 percent increase the sheriff sought, and that the 2024 budget would give all county employees a 5 percent raise; the council then voted 5-0 to deny the raise.
