Proposal 2026-1: Call a constitutional convention
Shall a convention of elected delegates be convened in 2027 to draft a general revision of the State Constitution for presentation to the state’s voters for their approval or rejection?
Proposal 2026-2: Campaign contributions by utilities and government contractors, and political ad disclosure (initiated law)
The proposal would: • Prohibit regulated electric and gas utilities, contractors with over $250,000 annually in government contracts, and people and organizations with substantial connections to these utilities/contractors from making direct or indirect campaign contributions to those who run for or hold offices that impact them. • Expand laws regulating spending on political communications, including those requiring disclosing donor information, to apply to communications clearly identifying candidates or ballot questions, even if they do not expressly advocate voting for/against them. • Expressly apply the law requiring disclosure of who paid for political communications to internet political communications. Should this proposal be adopted?
Bay Area Transportation Authority: public transit millage renewal
Shall the Bay Area Transportation Authority for Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties, Michigan, be authorized to levy annually an amount not to exceed .4589 mills ($0.46 per $1,000 of taxable value), a renewal of the .4788 mills reduced to .4589 mills under the Headlee Amendment, on taxable property within its jurisdiction for seven (7) years, 2028 through 2034, inclusive, to fund public transportation capital and operating expenses and provide transportation services for seniors and persons with disabilities? The estimated first year revenue is approximately $6,041,755. By law, a portion of millage will be distributed to other governmental tax-capturing entities, including the Traverse City, Village of Kingsley, Village of Fife Lake and Interlochen Downtown Development Authorities and the Grand Traverse and Leelanau County Brownfield Redevelopment Authorities.
Leelanau Township: local roads millage (new)
Shall Leelanau Township impose an increase of up to 0.3000 mills ($0.30 on each $1,000 of taxable value) in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution and levy it for six years, 2026 to 2031 inclusive, for the purpose of repair and improvement of local township roads, which .30 mill increase will raise an estimated $186,902 in the first year the millage is levied.
Leelanau Township: parks and facilities millage (new)
Shall Leelanau Township impose an increase of up to 0.5000 mills ($0.50 per $1,000 of taxable value) in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution and levy it for six years, 2026 to 2031 inclusive, for the purpose of needed repair and improvement of township parks and facilities, which .50 mill increase will raise an estimated $311,503 in the first year the millage is levied.
Village of Northport: Mill Pond Dam replacement millage (new)
This millage will allow Village of Northport to levy 1.24 mills ($1.24 per $1,000.00) to provide funds for the replacement and reconstruction of Mill Pond Dam and related improvements.Shall the limitation on the amount of taxes which may be imposed on taxable property in the Village of Northport, County of Leelanau, Michigan, be increased by and the Village be authorized to levy a new additional millage in an amount not to exceed 1.24 mills ($1.24 per $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of twenty (20) years, beginning in 2027 and continuing through 2046, inclusive, for the purpose of providing funds for the reconstruction and replacement of the Mill Pond Dam, including all necessary engineering, design, permitting, environmental compliance, reconstruction, replacement, repair, maintenance, financing costs, legal expenses, and all related improvements, costs, and expenses? It is estimated that the levy of 1.24 mills would raise approximately $103,524.00 in the first year the millage is levied (2027).
