Proposal 2026-1: Call a constitutional convention
Shall a convention of elected delegates be convened in 2027 to draft a general revision of the State Constitution for presentation to the state’s voters for their approval or rejection?
Proposal 2026-2: Campaign contributions by utilities and government contractors, and political ad disclosure (initiated law)
The proposal would: • Prohibit regulated electric and gas utilities, contractors with over $250,000 annually in government contracts, and people and organizations with substantial connections to these utilities/contractors from making direct or indirect campaign contributions to those who run for or hold offices that impact them. • Expand laws regulating spending on political communications, including those requiring disclosing donor information, to apply to communications clearly identifying candidates or ballot questions, even if they do not expressly advocate voting for/against them. • Expressly apply the law requiring disclosure of who paid for political communications to internet political communications. Should this proposal be adopted?
Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle ESD: special education millage renewal
This proposal will allow the intermediate school district to continue to levy special education millage previously approved by the electors. Shall the currently authorized millage rate limitation of 0.6231 mill ($0.6231 on each $1,000 of taxable valuation) on the amount of taxes which may be assessed against all property in Cheboygan-Otsego-Presque Isle Educational Service District, Michigan, to provide funds for the education of students with a disability, be renewed for a period of 6 years, 2027 to 2032, inclusive; the estimate of the revenue the intermediate school district will collect if the millage is approved and levied in 2027 is approximately $2,992,734 from local property taxes authorized herein (this is a renewal of millage that will expire with the 2026 tax levy)?
Presque Isle County: separate tax limitations renewal
Shall separate tax limitations be renewed for a period of four years, effective January 1, 2027, through December 31, 2030, or until altered by the voters of the county, for the County of Presque Isle and the townships and intermediate school districts within the county, the aggregate of which shall not exceed 7.00 mills as follows: Presque Isle County 5.74 Townships 1.00 Intermediate School District .26 Total 7.00 Note: If approved and levied, in accordance with State Law, a portion of this millage collected on certain properties lying within established Downtown Development Districts will be captured by or disbursed to the Downtown Development Authorities of the cities of Rogers City for authorized purposes. The amount of such capture is estimated to be $27,718.82 in the first year of the levy.
Presque Isle County: recycling millage renewal with increase
Shall the tax limitation on general ad valorem taxes within Presque Isle County imposed under Article IX, Sec. 6 of the Michigan Constitution be renewed and shall Presque Isle County be authorized to levy up to .20 mills ($0.20 cents on each $1,000.00 of taxable valuation) for a period of four (4) years, being calendar years 2026 through 2029, inclusive, for the purpose of the acquisition, operation, maintenance, and administration of the system of solid waste management program of Presque Isle County? If fully levied, this measure would generate approximately $203,599.00 in revenue the first year. Note: If approved and levied, in accordance with State of Michigan Law, a portion of this millage collected on cerain properties lying within established Downtown Development Districts will be captured by or disbursed to the Downtown Development Authorities of the cities of Rogers City and Onaway for authorized purposes. The amount of such capture is estimated to be $430.00 in the first year of the levy.
Presque Isle County: 911 surcharge renewal
Shall the authrization of the County of Presque Isle, Michigan, to assess a 911 charge at a rate not to exceed $3.00 each month, subject to reduction as provided by law, to each user located within the geographic boundaries of Presque Isle County, Michigan, be renewed for a period of five (5) years, July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2032, both inclusive, to maintain and operate the 911 system in the County fo Presque Isle, Michigan.
Presque Isle County: historical preservation millage
Shall Presque Isle County be authorized to levy a new tax, collected annually upon the taxable value of property subject to ad valoren taxation in Presque Isle County in an amount not to exceed 0.25 mill ($0.25 per $1,000 of taxable value) for a period of 5 (five) years, 2027 through 2031 inclusive, for the purpose of providing historical preservation services through a contract with the Presque Isle County Historical Museum, Inc., the Great Lakes Lore Museum, Inc., and the Onaway Area Historical Museum, Inc. The estimate of the revenue the County will collect if the millage is authorized and levied by the County in the 2027 calendar year is approximately $274,300.
Moltke Township: road and operating millage renewal
Shall the previous voted increase in the tax limitation imposed under Article IX, Sec 6 of the Michigan Constitution in Moltke Township, of 1 mil ($1.00 per $1000 of taxable value), reduced to .9944 mill (99.44 cents per $1000.00 of taxable value) by the required millage rollbacks, which will expire with the 2026 tax levy, be renewed and increased up to the original voted one (1) mill ($1.00 per $1000 of taxable value) and levied for 4 years, 2027 through 2030 Inclusive, for the purpose of providing revenue for road improvements and General township operating expenses, raising an estimated $24,119.00 in the First year the millage is levied?
