Initiative Measure No. IP26-645: repeal the 9.9% tax on income over $1 million; prohibit income taxes
Initiative Measure No. IP26-645 concerns state and local taxes. This measure would repeal a 9.9% tax on annual individual income over $1,000,000; prohibit taxes measured by individual income and taxes on individual income or the receipt of individual income; and define "income." This measure would decrease funding for public K-12 education, higher education (including universities and community colleges), and human services (primarily healthcare). Initiative Measure No. IL26-001 concerns parental rights relating to their children in public school. This measure would repeal amendments to a statute listing certain rights of parents and guardians of public-school children and re-enact the law as it was originally enacted by Initiative to the Legislature 2081. Auburn School District Proposition 1: $491 million school construction bonds
The Board of Directors of Auburn School District No. 408 has approved Resolution No. 1426, concerning a proposition to finance construction of new and replacement schools. King County Fire District 20 Proposition 1: $16 million facilities and apparatus bonds
The Board of Fire Commissioners of King County Fire Protection District No. 20 adopted Resolution No. 2026-002, concerning emergency response facilities to protect public health, life and property. This proposition would authorize the District to: improve emergency response support facilities and infrastructure on two sites owned by the District; renovate and modernize the existing fire station; acquire firefighting and emergency response apparatus; issue no more than $16,000,000 of general obligation bonds maturing within 20 years; and levy annual excess property taxes to repay the bonds, all as provided in Resolution No. 2026-002. King County Cemetery District 1 Proposition 1: Vashon cemetery levy increase
To support operational expenses, modernize and maintain burial records, acquire essential equipment, advance the development of green burial practices, and facilitate the acquisition of additional property, the Board of King County Cemetery District No. 1 adopted Resolution No. 295 proposing a permanent increase in its regular property tax levy from approximately $.03 ($.02816) to $.05 per $1000 of assessed valuation beginning in 2027. Pierce Transit Proposition 1: transit sales tax increase (+0.3%)
The Board of Commissioners of the Pierce County Public Transportation Benefit Area, commonly known as Pierce Transit, adopted Resolution No. 2026-006 concerning a sales and use tax for local transportation services. This proposition would authorize the collection of an additional sales and use tax of three-tenths of one percent, or three pennies for every $10 spent, to maintain and improve transit service, including adding bus routes and special event service; expanding daytime, evening, and weekend service; reducing wait times between buses; improving access to light rail, healthcare, schools, and jobs; expanding service for people with disabilities; and providing fare-free bus service to seniors and youth, effective April 1, 2027.
